Job Description – Rainforest Arts Gallery Manager
The Manager of Rain Forest Arts reports to the Rainforest Arts Management Committee which is comprised of a set of appointed members of the Chemainus Valley Cultural Arts Society (CVCAS).
There are two distinct aspects of this position. The first is that of Manager of Rainforest Arts and the second aspect is that of Data Entry Clerk with consultation and guidance provided by the CVCAS bookkeeper and Treasurer.
As the work required to manage the gallery varies seasonally, the position is part-time, 2-4 days a week, and will range from 16 to 19 hours a week. Some work (30—50%) can be done off-site, two ½ day shifts per week will be completed in the gallery and occasional evening/weekend work will be required to attend meetings and to support special events.
Responsibilities and Duties
The role oversees the retail operations of the Gallery and will include:
- retail gallery sales
- data entry of gallery sales and accounts receivable/payable
- managing suppliers (artists and other business suppliers)
- supporting the Display Coordinator in merchandising displays
- coordinating the volunteers who provide sales and cleaning support
- communicating with the public, artists and the volunteer Board of Directors
- Additionally, the role will support the Treasurer of CVCAS with data input as required.
- Occasional attendance at meetings and events will be required
The role may grow to include additional marketing activities such as arranging special exhibitions and internet site input. Other growth opportunities within the Society may be available in the future.
Previous retail experience, people management and data entry work are required to be successful in this role.
In addition to retail and people management skills, the role requires strong computer skills (MS Office, QuickBooks, Mailchimp). Ability to use social media platforms for communication would be helpful.
Effective performance of the role requires above-average communication and interpersonal skills, time management and organisation skills, combined with a high regard for detail and sense of urgency.
