The Chemainus Valley Cultural Arts Society is putting a call out to Chemainus Secondary School students for poetry, prose and art on the theme of Masks Off!. For two years you’ve had to cover up your smiles and muffle your voices through the filtering layers of COVID fashion, now it’s time for some unimpeded expressions of joy, heading toward the summer of 2022.
Selected entries will be published on the Valley Voices literary page of The Cowichan Valley Voice Magazine. Other entries will be published in a Masks Off! Collection on the CVCAS website. Consideration is also being given for publication of a Masks Off! chapbook marking the occasion.
Fiction, creative non-fiction of up to 600 words, and poetry up to 60 lines will be happily received (longer submissions can be accepted, but will have to be continued on another page or online). For authors who are interested, video readings of their works may also be produced.
You’ve got a story to tell about the COVID era and beyond. Fill in the submission form, which can be picked up at the school office. Then submit your work to Teacher/Counsellor Barbara Stoochnoff at Chemainus Secondary School, following the instructions on the form.
