In Memory of Joan Roberts
(June 8, 1943 to December 19, 2020)
It is with deep sadness that the Board of the Chemainus Valley Cultural Arts Society recoginzes the contributions of Treasurer Joan Roberts, who passed away December 19, 2020. The CVCAS shares its condolences with families, friends and the community she supported so willingly.
Joan grew up in England, where worked as a Registered Nurse and Community and Facility Midwife. She emigrated to B.C. in 1968, where she continued her career in nursing, including as a Northern Outpost Nurse on Baffin Island in the Northwest Territories. In 1974 she married and moved to Powell River where she worked as an RN and Supervisor. She moved to Chemainus in 1982, and in 1983 was appointed Director of Nursing at the Chemainus Hospital. She retired as Director-Manager of the Chemainus Health Care Centre in 2006, and remained committed to the health and welfare of the people of Chemainus as Secretary of the Chemainus Health Care Foundation. The arts were also a big part of Joan’s life. Joan was always interested in and involved with the arts and culture, and sat on the CVCAS board for six years, five as Treasurer. She played the piano most of her life, and on a voluntary basis in care homes and at Calvary Baptist Church. She loved all kinds of music and theatre, and volunteered at the Chemainus Theatre for over 20 years.
A memorial service was held for Joan Dec. 29 at Calvary Baptist Church.
