Bone Game/Slahal

Learn about the traditional Bone Game! First Nations Facilitators will teach attendees the Coast Salish bone game, known as Slahal, a traditional Indigenous team game involving guessing, drumming, singing, and strategy. Two teams face each other while players hide pairs of marked and unmarked bones. The opposing team tries to guess which hands hold each type of bone using hand signals. Correct guesses win scoring sticks, while incorrect guesses lose them. The game continues until one team collects all the sticks.
Cultural Significance:
Slahal brings communities together through music, competition, and celebration. It has been played for generations at gatherings and has traditionally been used to strengthen relationships and peacefully resolve disagreements.
Participation will be pay by donation at the door.
