Chair / Beverly Knight

Long time resident of Chemainus and a promoter of all things arts. My focus is music but not limited to that. We have a fantastic team on the board who are “all in” to enhance our little town with arts and culture. Looking forward to moving forward after our isolation.

Peggy, Past Chair, has been on the Board of CVCAS for six years. As a full time potter, owner of Turning Point Arts studio and gallery in Saltair and former owner of the Pottery Store in Chemainus, Peggy has a deep knowledge and understanding of the arts scene in our area. In 2016 Peggy established Rainforest Arts Gallery, which she continues to manage, and has headed the drive to establish an Arts Centre in Chemainus for the past four years.

Secretary / Chrissy Kemppi

Chrissy has been involved in the arts scene – on stage, backstage or in-studio – for most of her life. Shortly after moving to Chemainus a few years ago, she started volunteering at Rainforest Arts and then joined the CVCAS Board. During this time, she has also established The Shining Tree Studio where she offers custom fitness services and hosts various arts endeavours. Down the road, she would like to see an amateur theatre group spring up and grow in Chemainus.

Treasurer / Joan Roberts

Joan grew up in England, where worked as a Registered Nurse and Community and Facility Midwife. She emigrated to B.C. in 1968, where she continued her career in nursing, including as a Northern Outpost Nurse on Baffin Island in the Northwest Territories. In 1974 she married and moved to Powell River where she worked as an RN and Supervisor. She moved to Chemainus in 1982, and in 1983 was appointed Director of Nursing at the Chemainus Hospital. She retired as Director-Manager of the Chemainus Health Care Centre in 2006, and remains committed to the health and welfare of the people of Chemainus, currently as Secretary of the Chemainus Health Care Foundation. The arts have also been a big part of Joan’s life. “I have always been interested in and involved with the arts and culture, and have been on the CVCAS board for six years, five as Treasurer. I have been playing the piano most of my life, and have played on a voluntary basis in care homes and at Calvary Baptist Church. I love all kinds of music and theatre, and have been a volunteer at the Chemainus Theatre for over 20 years!”
