The show opens at Rainforest Arts gallery January 15

The 2026 Convergence: Images + Words show will bring visual artists and writers together for a stimulating and evocative event. Inspired by the works to be on display at the Rainforest Arts gallery from January 15th to end of March, authors and poets will compose short, responsive prose and poetry to be posted beside the art. A celebration viewing and reading will take place at the gallery on January 25th.

Gift cards with the art reproduced on the cover, and the responsive writing inside, will be printed, and available for distribution and sale at the gallery in time for the celebration event. Each artist and writer will receive five complementary cards with the art they are responding to on the cover, their responsive poetry or prose inside. Five cards will also be provided to the gallery and made available for sales.*

Dates to Remember:
Writers participating in this show are asked to remember the following timeline and instructions:

• Nov. 1 – Writers will be invited to participate in the Convergence, with a deadline for registrations of Nov. 30.
• Dec. 3 – Artists and writers will be ‘paired’ by random selection.
• Dec. 3 & 4 – Digital images of the paired artworks will be emailed to writers.
• Dec. 15 – Deadline for prose and poetry submissions.**
• Jan. 15 – Show opens.
• Jan. 25 – Celebration Reading event (Attendance limited to artists, writers, and organizers due to lack of space at RFA gallery).

Submission Notes:

* Writers give permission to the Chemainus Valley Cultural Arts Society for this one-time printing in the art cards of their poetry and prose.

** Prose submissions can be up to 150 words. Poetry, up to 17 lines—including blank lines—with a maximum of 45 characters per line. The responses will be posted on 5×7 inch placards beside the artworks that inspired them.
